SCOTTSDALE'S FIRST NANO-BREWERY.

Scottsdale’s first nano-brewey pumps fresh excitement into the Old Town dining and nightlife scene at the former site of Salty Senorita. Union Barrelhouse, Modern Ale, the brainchild of Scottsdale restaurateur and owner John Casale, in a proprietary partnership with Phoenix Ale, produces artisanal craft beer, which served alongside upscale tavern cuisine in a comfortable and inviting urban Americana setting. Live entertainment ramps up the energy level, along with complimentary rides for brew-loving patrons along on the “Hop Stop” to other Old Town beer centric establishments.

THE MENU

The menu for Union Barrelhouse keeps the focus on fresh foods and intense flavors. It spans from farmer’s market salads to exceptional burgers and a selection of “modern melts” — our chef’s take on the classic grilled cheese. Among the starters, for example, is a Melts and Malts Sampler pairing four mini melts with malts from the bar.

A sampling of items from The Farm includes Block and Barrel soup with Barrelhouse Oil Can Porter, three cheeses and bacon jam; and the 2nd St. Farmers Market salad with roasted beets, bosc pears, almonds, blue cheese, petite greens, and a champagne balsamic vinaigrette.

Among the signature Modern Melt selections is the PB & J” (Pear, Brie and Jam), crafted of triple crème brie, bosc pears, bacon jam, and wild arugula on sourdough. Another favorite: the Buffalo Bleu with bleu cheese, crispy buffalo chicken, and celery root slaw.

UB Corner Grill specialties include the Barrelhouse beer burger, the Union grilled steak burger, the black bean veg burger, oven-baked smoky mac and cheese, grilled king salmon, BBQ chicken stack, and the Famous Door 8 oz. bistro steak and frites.

Catering to customers with a sweet tooth, the delectable desserts menu includes ice box berries (-20 degree blueberries with warm white-chocolate ganache); Peach crumble skillet with caramelized peaches, cinnamon crunch, brown sugar caramel and vanilla ice cream; and chocolate chip cookie tart with white chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

THE BAR

The proprietary draft beer program is major draw at Union Barrelhouse.  The restaurant features specialty craft beers including Barrelhouse Oil Can Porter, Barrelhouse American Hefeweizen, and Barrelhouse Rock Bock.  The restaurant also offers nine hand-crafted flavors, seasonal brews, and multiple house blends including the “Hot Scotch Burining Foot, Broken Bell Blueberry Ale, Nutcrackers Spice Stout, Pedal Pusher Watermelon Wheat Ale, and The Remedy. Other features include adult shakes and craft soda on tap, signature cocktails on tap, beer tastings and craftsman dinners, guest beer pairing events, and a “Mug Club.”  Thirty-two handles of carefully selected local, regional, large craft and domestic beers are available in addition to American whiskey and bourbon, a wine selection, and ten signature cocktails.

AMENITIES

The restaurant also features Wi-Fi and a 2,000-square-foot, temperature-controlled patio on Scottsdale Road, an 86 ft. indoor bar, vintage fireplace, live acoustic music on the indoor stage, DJ’s and other premium entertainment. A 75-speace parking lot and complimentary bicycle parking and in-season bike valet is available.

THE SITE

Union Barrelhouse makes its digs in downtown Scottsdale’s former Salty Senorita location. Eco-friendly design and use of local purveyors keeps the nano-brewery firmly rooted in the community. Union Barrelhouse is located at 3636 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Union Barrelhouse is open seven days a week, with happy hour everyday from 3-7PM, as well as late night offerings.
